BEIJING, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

KATHMANDU -- COVID-19 cases in Nepal surpassed 20,000-mark on Saturday, with 315 new cases reported in the day, Nepal's Ministry of Health and Population said.

Since early this week, Nepal has been witnessing resurgence in new cases of COVID-19.

Jageshwor Gautam, spokesperson at the ministry, said at a regular press briefing that the COVID-19 cases had reached 20,086 in the country.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore's Ministry of Health (MOH) reported 307 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, bringing the total confirmed cases in the country to 52,512.

Of the new cases, five are imported cases, one is community cases and the rest are linked with the dormitories of foreign workers.

Of the new cases, 99 percent are linked to known clusters, while the rest are pending contact tracing.

ADDIS ABABA -- Ethiopia's confirmed COVID-19 cases reached 17,999 after 469 new COVID-19 positive cases were confirmed on Saturday, the Ethiopian Ministry of Health said.

The Ethiopian Ministry of Health, in a statement issued on Saturday, revealed that from a total of 7,358 medical tests that were conducted within the last 24 hours, 469 of them tested positive for COVID-19, eventually bringing the total number of positive cases to 17,999.

NEW DELHI -- The COVID-19 Case Fatality Rate (CFR) in India has improved to 2.15 percent from 3.33 percent in mid-June, said an official statement issued by the federal health ministry on Saturday.

This is said to be the lowest CFR in the country since the first lockdown imposed in the country on March 25.

HANOI -- Vietnam reported 28 new cases of COVID-19 infection on Saturday afternoon, bringing its total confirmed cases to 586, according to its Ministry of Health.

A total of 26 of the new cases are community cases, among which 18 were reported in Vietnam's central city of Da Nang, five in central Quang Nam province, two in southern Ho Chi Minh City and one in northern Thai Binh province, according to the ministry.

HONG KONG -- Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Leung Chun-ying on Saturday lashed out at Hong Kong opposition for placing politics above public health as they criticized the postponement of the 2020 Legislative Council (LegCo) General Election of the HKSAR.

Hong Kong is being hit by the third round of COVID-19 outbreak, with the daily new cases exceeding 100 for over 10 days and the source of infection of many cases remaining unknown, Leung said on social media, noting that all large group events have been postponed or canceled as a result.

DOHA -- The Qatari health ministry on Saturday announced 216 new COVID-19 infections, raising the total number of confirmed cases in the Gulf state to 110,911, official Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.

Meanwhile, 201 more recovered from the virus, bringing the total recoveries to 107,578, while the death toll remained 174, according to a ministry statement quoted by QNA.
