- Hong Kong reports 9 new COVID-19 cases, 4,993 in total

- Germany reports most daily COVID-19 cases since April

- Russia's COVID-19 cases up 5,762 to over 1.08 million

- Indonesia reports 3,635 newly-confirmed COVID-19 cases, 122 new deaths

BEIJING, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong's Center for Health Protection (CHP) reported nine new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, taking the total confirmed cases to 4,993.

The new cases involved three imported and six local infections, with transmission chains of three still unknown, the CHP said at a press briefing.

BERLIN -- Germany has reported 2,194 new COVID-19 cases in the last day, its highest figure since April, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for infectious diseases said on Thursday.

The total number of confirmed cases has reached 265,857, while the nationwide death toll from the disease has increased by three to 9,371.

MOSCOW -- Russia registered 5,762 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking its total to 1,085,281, the country's COVID-19 response center said in a statement Thursday.

Meanwhile, 144 new deaths were reported, taking the death toll to 19,061, it said.

KUWAIT CITY -- Kuwait on Thursday reported 825 new COVID-19 cases and four more deaths, raising the tally of infections to 97,824 and the death toll to 575, the Health Ministry said in a statement.

Currently, 9,338 patients are receiving treatment, including 94 in ICU, according to the statement.

TBILISI -- Georgian authorities reported 179 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, bringing the nationwide count to 2,937.

Among the 179 new cases, 126 were confirmed in the western Adjara region, the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health (NCDC) said.

JAKARTA -- COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 3,635 within one day to 232,628, with the death toll adding by 122 to 9,222, the health ministry said on Thursday.

According to the ministry, 2,585 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 166,686. ■
