AMMAN -- Jordan on Wednesday commenced a COVID-19 vaccination campaign with the priority for vulnerable groups and frontline health workers, and the program is progressing smoothly, said Health Minister Nazir Obeidat.

"The vaccination program kicked off in 29 centers around the kingdom, according to a plan announced by the ministry to vaccinate about 5,000 people a day," he said during a visit to a vaccination center.

He added that the campaign intends to cover at least some 20 percent of the Jordanian population. (Jordan-COVID19-Vaccination)

DAMASCUS -- The Israeli missile strike against a series of military positions in eastern Syria after midnight killed 57 fighters, a war monitor reported Wednesday.

The "intense" missile strike targeted positions of Syrian forces and allied Iranian-backed fighters in the area extending from the city of Deir al-Zour to the al-Bukamal area on the Syrian-Iraqi border, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. (Israel-Syria-Missile strike)

TEHRAN -- Iran's health ministry reported 6,317 daily COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, raising the total nationwide infections to 1,305,339.

The pandemic has so far claimed 56,457 lives in Iran, up by 97 in the past 24 hours, said Sima Sadat Lari, the spokeswoman for Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education, during her daily briefing. (Iran-COVID19-New Cases)

KUWAIT CITY -- Kuwait's Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah has submitted the resignation of his government to Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) said on Wednesday.

The prime minister met on Tuesday with the Deputy Prime minister and Defense Minister Sheikh Hamad Jaber Al-Ali Al-Sabah and the ministers. Sheikh Hamad Jaber Al-Ali tendered resignation of all the cabinet members "in light of current developments regarding the relation between the National Assembly and the government, and what the national interest may warrant," KUNA said.
