TEHRAN, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Thursday urged an end to the Israeli violence against the Palestinians, Tasnim news agency reported.
Israel's attacks and aggression against Palestinians "must stop immediately," Rouhani said in a telephone conversation with the Qatari emir with reference to recent escalation between Israelis and Palestinians.
"Muslim states should cooperate to counter the Israeli aggression and hostile acts seen in recent days and in the holy month of Ramadan," he was quoted as saying.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) should take a more active role in this regard since the OIC was established in the first place to address the Palestinian issue, he added.
For his part, the Qatari emir said that his country shares Iran's stance in condemnation of the attacks on the Palestinians and demands an effective role from the OIC in this regard.
